Full integration of European alfalfa breeding

Discover how DLF's acquisition of an alfalfa breeding programme is accelerating the development of high-quality alfalfa varieties for the European market
Full integration of European alfalfa breeding

For more than three decades, DLF has collaborated on developing alfalfa seed for the European market. In 2016, by purchasing a new alfalfa breeding programme we accelerated this trend, and our alfalfa activities are now integrated in DLF’s global research network. We have transferred the breeding activities to DLF’s breeding stations in Roye and Les Alleuds, France.

These two locations will develop high-quality alfalfa varieties for the European market. Both stations also have considerable knowledge and experience from other crops, which safeguards that the programme remains robust. The first alfalfa yield trial was established in Roye in the spring, with full integration scheduled for 2023.

This exciting step for alfalfa breeding at DLF means we can exploit synergies across the organisation and ensure that we can deliver solutions to customers now and in the future.
