Smooth-st. Meadowgrass

Smooth-stalked Meadow-grass (Poa pratensis L.)

Poa pratensis is frequently found in natural grasslands, in both mineral and humus rich soils. It is persistent with strong rhizomes and erect leafy shoots. Growth starts early in the spring and the regrowth consists mainly of leafy material.

Poa pratensis is present in all permanent pastures used for grazing. It is common in temperate and relatively moist regions of both northern and southern hemispheres. It tolerates hard wear and because of its rhizomes, it can regenerate even if the grass sward is badly damaged.
