Pulse Breeding

We focus on the development of varieties with even better seed yield, higher protein content, strong stems so that the erect crop is easy to harvest, and resistance to a range of diseases. To ensure that the peas have a high yield, also under different growing conditions, we test them thoroughly at various sites in Europe and Canada.

To streamline the breeding programme, the season has been extended to include the winter months, when work on peas continues in the southern hemisphere. We have developed a number of successful varieties such as Nitouche and Pinnochio, which have set new standards for quality and cultivation.
