Fodder beet Breeding(Beta vulgaris var. crassa)
Fodder beets are arguably the most stable and highest yielding crops for temperate areas. Both root and leaves can be used. The plant is a slow starter, and effective combating of weeds is required for a successful crop. Fodder beets are used for winter feed or grazed in strips in the field. Almost 70% of the dry matter is sugar, so fodder beets are a very energy-rich and easily digestible feed.
We develop varieties with:
-
very high yield
-
beets with minimal soil adherence
-
good resistance to bolters so the crop can be sown early
-
resistance to disease
-
tolerance to the herbicide Roundup, variety Simplex, which greatly simplifies growing
