A breakthrough in breeding
Lyside is the first white/creamy flowered variety of spring oilseed rape. The colour of flowers gives some major advantages.
Better quality of oil
The pale colour of flowers is correlated with a lower content of tannins in the seed. Tannins have a bitter taste and the lower content in Lyside reults in an oil with a milder taste than oil from normal varieties.
Less need for pesticides
Insects like pollen beetles are attracted by yellow colours and attack oilseed rape fields heavily. With Lyside the amount of pollen beetles is smaller and consequently the need for pesticides is lower.
A triple low variety
Lyside has of course, beside the low tannin content, also a low level of euric acids and glucosiniolates - it is a true triple low!
